Celebrating My Chaos Community!

Those who know me understand why I paint furniture, but for anyone new around here, here’s the short version: I’ve always been obsessed with color—bold, bright, totally wild colors. They just make me happy. When I was thirteen, my parents actually let me paint my own bedroom. So, of course, I covered the walls with red polka dots and painted gold stars all over the ceiling. Walking into that room was an experience, but I absolutely loved it.
Years later, I rented a house that was a little…well, dark. Low ceilings, not a lot of windows. Not my vibe at all. I had to do something to bring it to life. So I grabbed some paint and went to town on my furniture—bright, happy colors everywhere. It totally transformed the place, and honestly, I had a blast. My best friend Sharon (we’ve been friends since we were four!) stopped by, saw what I’d done, and told me to keep going. So I did. My style back then was a little less “chaos,” but I’ve definitely evolved into what I call my Chaos designs.
My Chaos designs come to life one splat at a time—each outlined in pencil, then layered with bold colors and patterns that all vibe together. I work on every splat individually, making sure no two designs or colors are too close, and I obsess over the details until every inch is filled with joyful chaos. It’s a wild, meticulous process, and I love every minute of it! If you would like to learn more about my Chaos designs, click here
Why am I sharing this? Because for a long time, I thought I was the only one who loved this kind of wild, joyful chaos. But guess what? I’ve found a whole community of people who get it! Over the years, I’ve created commissions for some truly wonderful people who love Chaos just as much as I do. But when Melissa from Georgia reached out, I had no idea just how much we were on the same wavelength—until she sent me photos of her home. Let’s just say, we are definitely sipping the same Kool-Aid! Her house is everything I dream of: bursting with color and personality. She wanted a piece of furniture to match, and I couldn’t have been more excited to paint it.
One of the things I love most about commissions is weaving in little personal touches—things that really mean something to the owner. Melissa asked me to include an alien, a spaceship, a Greek eye, a bulldog, and the outline of a pelican. Every element had a special meaning for her, and bringing them all together made this piece even more special to her. You just can’t get that in a furniture store.
So this message goes out to ALL my peeps—you know who you are! Dr. Larry, Janice, Brooke, Debra, Eleanor, Brenda, Melissa, Janeen, the Taunton Library… and so many more who have brought my “Chaos” into their homes. Each and every one of you is special to me, because we all speak the same language: colorful, bright, happy language…am I right?
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You all truly humble me.
Now, back to painting more furniture!!
Hugs,
Debbie
These are pictures of Melissa’s home. I gotta say that the piece I painted for her fits PERFECTLY with her decor!
